M U K E S H

The sudden death of MUKESH came as a cruel shock to me and also to the millions of admirers of his melodious and haunting songs. Your instant editorial paying glorious tributes to the departed singer, is in tune with the feelings of music lovers all over the country and abroad. We may not be able to hear his new songs any more and it is indeed an inconsolable grief.

I loved the songs of MUKESH. His melodious voice with a touch of sadness and despair will be always ringing in my ears. His voice had the effect of stirring the emotions and melting even hardened hearts. In films, his songs always scored over the performance of actors and brought the soothing effect on the audience. He was the master of tragedy, suffering, separation, heartbreak and longing in love. Many have forgotten the films and the sequences but remember the haunting voice of MUKESH. People with soft emotions have wept in theatres whenever the King of Tragedy sang his soul-stirring songs. I think many persons will remember the songs of MUKESH centered on various emotions of mankind. There was a feeling of identity and personal touch in the voice of MUKESH. In a moment of anguish and sorrow, the voice of MUKESH came geared up as a tear jerker. Who can forget the immortal song s ..... “Asu bari hai, ye jeeevan ki rahen”…."hum chod chale hain mehafilko"….."yad ay aadi rath ko"….."zindha hum is khayal mei"..."ajareey..abh mera dil pukara"…. Anguish and frustration was the keynote of his voice... His light-hearted songs were equally famous. ‘Awwara hoon’ and ‘suhana safar’ were two of his hit songs. His voice always denoted the image of an innocent, naive, good natured man. It suited RAJ KAPOOR ideally and the soul of his character was enhanced by the voice of MUKESH.

His death will be mourned by millions. The voice which moved millions of Hearts is no more. He will remain an immortal singer for many years. His melodies will continue to haunt millions of hearts for many more years. May his soul rest in peace.
